About the Program

 

The Certificate of Graduate Study in Learning Disabilities Program (COGS) is designed for teachers who are looking to broaden their knowledge and skills to better serve students with learning difficulties. The goals and objectives for the program include the further development of educational leaders in supporting students, parents, and colleagues in the field. Graduate students complete the COGS in Learning Disabilities with knowledge and skills in the current research on learning disabilities and methods so as to more effectively serve individuals with learning disabilities; and, in this program they are trained to be educational collaborators and leaders, to be change agents in their classrooms, and school districts.

Curriculum - Program Code: COG-LRNDIS / Major Code: G138

 

The Certificate of Graduate Study (COGS) in Learning Disabilities is a part-time program offered in an accelerated online format. It requires the completion of 15 graduate semester hours (5 courses) which are possible to complete in only 3 consecutive semesters. Courses in this program may be used to satisfy course requirements in Rowan’s Master of Arts in Learning Disabilities or the Master of Arts in Special Education.

 

Coursework

The following courses make up the Learning Disabilities Certificate of Graduate Study program. Each course is scheduled in 8 week modules with each week of work starting every Tuesday at 8:00 a.m. and ending every Monday at midnight (Eastern Standard Time). Admission Requirements

 

The following is a list of items required to begin the application process for the Learning Disabilities Certificate of Graduate Study program. There may be additional action or materials required for admission to the program. Upon receipt of the materials below a representative from the CGCE Admissions Processing Office will contact you with confirmation or indicating any missing items.

  • $65 (U.S.) non-refundable application fee
  • Bachelor's degree (or its equivalent) from an accredited institution of higher learning
  • Official transcripts from all colleges attended (regardless of number of credits earned)
  • Current professional resume
  • Typewritten statement of professional objectives
    • Describe how you might use this program to advance your career. Educational goals beyond the master’s level, if applicable, are also relevant.
  • Two letters of recommendation from professional sources
  • Minimum undergraduate cumulative GPA of 2.75 (on a 4.0 scale)

    Below is a list of Learning Disabilities COGS anticipated start dates. The start dates indicated are based on the university calendar or the CGCE schedule. Your actual first day of class will depend on the course sequence which will be provided by a CGCE Enrollment Advisor once you have matriculated in the program.
