About the Program
Holders of a B.S. in Computer Science typically work in the information technology field (IT) which includes such occupations as:
- Computer network, systems, and database administrators
- Computer software engineers and computer programmers
- Computer support specialists
- Computer systems analysts
To enter or advance in most of these occupations a bachelor’s degree is typically required. Because technology changes rapidly, professionals in this field must continue to acquire the latest skills and develop a broad knowledge of, and experience with, a variety of computer systems and technologies. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), overall employment in fields such as computer software engineering, computer network, systems, and database administration are expected to grow by as much as 30 percent through 2018. Also, according to the BLS, in general, those with at least a bachelor’s degree should have the best employment opportunities.
The Rowan University B.S. in Computer Science degree completion program expands the knowledge of its students through teaching, research, and service. It will help develop the strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills required by most employers of IT professionals. Students obtain the highest quality instruction in the theory and practice of computational science from a department of computer science that is committed to creating a student-centered learning environment that promotes close student-faculty relationships and enhances intellectual development. Rowan University's Computer Science major is also accredited by the National Computing Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).
